Gulbenkian Exhibitions Fund open for applications

A new open call will support exhibitions and showcases in the UK of contemporary art from Portugal or Portuguese-speaking African countries
23 feb 2026

Arts organisations and institutions can now apply for Gulbenkian Exhibitions Fund, an initiative from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation UK Branch to help expand programming of international arts. Applications are open until 27 April 2026.

Gulbenkian Exhibitions Fund will support showcasing of art by living artists from, or based in, Portugal and Portuguese-speaking African countries. It aims to strengthen visibility of contemporary art from these regions in the UK cultural landscape.

Grants of up to £30,000 are available for non-profit institutions or organisations in the UK such as museums, festivals, galleries and biennales. The funding can be used for a variety of showcases, including solo or group exhibitions, presentations, tours, retrospectives or site-specific projects. Supported art forms include visual arts, moving image or film and, within an exhibition context, performance.

Projects will be selected by a panel of arts leaders from the UK and Portugal, and will be assessed on their relevance, audience, and cultural discourse, as well as potential benefits to the artists. They must take place between June 2026 and August 2027. Successful projects will be announced in June this year.

Gulbenkian Exhibitions Fund aims to provide professional development opportunities for artists, while helping non-profit organisations make new connections and engage UK audiences with art from other regions. The initiative expands the Foundation’s international offering for arts institutions and its work to bring Portuguese creativity to other European countries. In the UK, the Foundation fosters international exchange and works to strengthen links between artists, arts organisations and professionals in countries where the Foundation has a footprint.

Applicants are encouraged to read the Call Conditions and FAQs for details on eligibility and funding requirements.
