Multimedia show that reinterprets Franz Schubert’s majestic song cycle Winterreise, composed to poems by Wilhelm Müller – the path of a traveller on a wintry journey, increasingly sunk into thoughts as intense and heavy as the landscapes that he passes through. Making use of this very strong visual imagery, the South African artist William Kentridge has created video animations and collages to go with the interpretation by the baritone Matthias Goerne and pianist Markus Hinterhäuser.
