The Centro de Arte Moderna is an art and culture centre that brings together the largest collection of modern and contemporary Portuguese art to date. With a renovated building and a new Garden extension, CAM’s mission is to harness the transformative power of art in order to foster social and individual change.

We are looking to strengthen the Centro de Arte Moderna team with an Exhibition Producer, who will be responsible for the full coordination and execution of CAM exhibitions, from the planning phase through to the opening and dismantling, ensuring liaison between all areas involved and compliance with agreed deadlines, budgets and quality standards.

Main responsibilities

  • Negotiate and manage loan agreements with national and international institutions and collectors, ensuring the preparation and follow-up of loan agreements, facility reports and other contractual documentation, and supervising the archiving of this documentation.
  • Supervise the temporary importation processes for artworks, including Immunity from Seizure applications to the Directorate-General for the Arts and the Ministry of Culture, ensuring full compliance with applicable legislation and customs procedures.
  • Define and oversee the criteria for registering and documenting exhibited works, including loan conditions, insurance values, image credits and reproduction rights, ensuring the integrity and accessibility of information for all parties involved.
  • Manage the full logistics of exhibitions, including the transport and insurance of works, travel and accommodation of artists and couriers, and liaison with specialist art handling companies, ensuring compliance with deadlines and conditions agreed with lenders.
  • Draw up and manage the production budget for each exhibition, monitor financial execution, authorise payment requests and report variances to management, proposing corrective measures when necessary.
  • Manage cross-functional relationships with internal teams (design, audiovisual, communications, conservation and security) and external partners, ensuring the coherence of the exhibition project and the quality of the visitor experience.
  • Lead the exhibition installation and dismantling team, supervising the movement, receipt and installation of artworks in liaison with couriers and conservators, ensuring compliance with technical and preventive conservation requirements.

Required qualifications

  • Degree in Fine Arts, Art History, Cultural Management or related fields; postgraduate training in exhibition production or curatorship preferred.
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of French or another foreign language is valued.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with collection management systems (e.g. TMS, Mimsy or similar).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in exhibition production, preferably at a museum or leading cultural institution.
