The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a private institution whose main purpose is to improve people’s quality of life through art, charity, science, and education. The Foundation carries out its activities from its headquarters in Lisbon, and from its branches in Paris and London.

We are looking for a Deposit Technical Officer to join the the Art Library team. This technical officer will be responsible for the physical treatment of collections, providing customer service, carrying out tasks related to the circulation and physical management of collections and deposits, developing ongoing preservation and conservation initiatives, and processing the information resources that make up the documentary fund, ensuring consistency and access to the information made available.

Contractual conditions: Permanent employment contract.

Main Responsibilities

  • Welcome and guide users in meeting their information needs, allowing them to make the most of the available internal and external resources. Ensure, where applicable, document reproduction routines and monitor the operating status of equipment intended for the public.
  • Search and retrieve information by using computer methods and tools, if applicable, to help respond to user requests.
  • Perform, if applicable, internal and external document circulation tasks, participate in collection and archive digitization projects, and ensure the organization of deposits.
  • Apply, if necessary, the collection preservation policy in force; ensure the implementation of technical processing routines for documents, and implement the methods, measures and techniques for storing, protecting, preserving and restoring documentary media of any nature. Identify and forward to the preservation and conservation area the specimens requiring intervention.
  • Organize and structure, if applicable, information resources (collections), and explore metadata and accesses.
  • Reference, select and review, where applicable, information sources. Search and retrieve information by using computer methods and tools to help respond to user requests.
  • Correct and review bibliographic records in accordance with current regulations. Apply policies and procedures related to the production of metadata from existing documentary resources.
  • Collaborate in the implementation of public satisfaction surveys, if necessary.
  • Carry out simple stowage of information resources, if applicable.

Required Skills

  • 12th grade and professional training in the library field.
  • Minimum 1 to 2 years’ experience in similar responsibilities.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Good command of written and spoken Portuguese and English language.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office tools.
