Cultural Mediator and Artistic Educator

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a private institution whose main purpose is to improve people’s quality of life through art, charity, science, and education. The Foundation carries out its activities from its headquarters in Lisbon, and from its branches in Paris and London.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum houses one of the most important private art collections in the world, assembled during his lifetime by Mr Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian, with works spanning five thousand years of art, from Ancient Egypt to the 20th century. In addition to its Collection, the Gulbenkian Museum organizes temporary exhibitions and other activities such as guided tours, workshops, conferences, among other activities.

We are seeking a Cultural Mediator and Artistic Educator to join the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum team, which will be responsible for ensuring the dissemination and mediation of collections and exhibitions among different target audiences, for continuously promoting artistic education in the community, while articulating the programming with the programmatic guidelines of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum.

Contractual conditions: Permanent employment contract.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop the educational programming offered by the Museum to the various visiting audiences and ensure its compliance.
  • Monitor, manage and supervise external mediators and/or of Museum trainers, bridging the gap between them and the institution
  • Represent the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation whenever courses, training initiatives and projects related to museology and education are carried out, as well as those related to its specific area of educational programming.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external partners of each project or educational programming field, facilitating their connections.
  • Hold technical meetings with those responsible for specific groups and/or communities before appointments or to carry out specific projects.

Required skills

  • Graduate degree in Fine Arts, History, Education or similar fields.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in similar responsibilities.
  • Master’s degree as a preferred condition.
  • Proficiency in English and French, plus Spanish as a preferred condition.
  • Good interpersonal, pedagogical communication and teamwork skills, planning and organization
