Cultural Mediator and Artistic Educator

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a private institution whose main purpose is to improve people’s quality of life through art, charity, science, and education. The Foundation carries out its activities from its headquarters in Lisbon, and from its branches in Paris and London.

We are looking for a Cultural Mediator and Artistic Educator to join the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s team, which will be responsible for ensuring the dissemination and mediation of collections and exhibitions among public with specific needs, for continuously promoting artistic education in the community, while articulating the programming with the programmatic guidelines of the Gulbenkian Museum and Centro de Arte Moderna (CAM).

Contractual conditions: Permanent Employment Contract.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop the educational programming offered by the Gulbenkian Museum and CAM to the public with specific needs.
  • Oversee, manage, and support external mediators and/or Gulbenkian Museum / CAM trainers, serving as a link between them and the Foundation.
  • Represent the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in courses, training sessions, and projects related to museology, education, and the Gulbenkian Foundation’s specialized educational programming.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with internal and external project partners, fostering connections between them.
  • Conduct technical meetings with leaders of specific groups and/or communities prior to engagements or for project development.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, History, Education, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Specialized qualifications in special education or a related field preferred.
  • Language proficiency in English and French required; Spanish preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and pedagogical communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and work effectively in a team.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in similar responsibilities.
