The first exhibition dedicated to Todd Webb, one of the leading American photographers of the second half of the 20th century, brings together photographs of Portugal taken in the 1970s and 1980s.

Recently, the Todd Webb Archive donated the photographer’s Portuguese holdings to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. The exhibition – the first presentation of Todd Webb’s (1905–2000) work in Portugal – brings together the complete set of these photographs (around 60), accompanied by two small sections devoted to his important work on New York and on sub-Saharan Africa. The latter, in colour, was commissioned by the United Nations following the wave of independence movements.

Curated by Jorge Calado, the exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue.
