Todd Webb in Portugal

Exhibition catalogue “Todd Webb in Portugal”, featuring texts by Betsy Hunt and Jorge Calado and a chronology of the photographer’s life.

The catalogue reproduces all the photographs presented in the exhibition. The 61 images taken by Todd Webb during his three trips to Portugal, between 1972 and 1982, constitute a unique – and until now unpublished – record of the encounter between the gaze of one of the most significant American photographers of the twentieth century and the Portuguese reality of that period.

In addition to this Portuguese body of work, now donated to the Art Library, the catalogue also includes eight iconic photographs of New York and eight photographs of Africa, offering a broader perspective on the artist’s work.

The publication further features a text by Betsy Hunt, Executive Director of the Todd Webb Archive, on the photographer and her friendship with him, two texts by Jorge Calado, and a previously unpublished self-chronology of Todd Webb’s life.
