'The Lady of Chandor', by Catarina Mourão

Event Slider

Between May and June, the Foundation will present three works, by three female directors, chosen by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira as part of the Siza exhibition.

The last film of the cycle is the documentary The Lady of Chandor (1999), filmed in Goa by Catarina Mourão, three decades after Goa’s independence from the Portuguese colonial rule. The film follows Aida de Menezes Bragança, an octogenarian woman who inherited a manor house ‘lost’ in a small village in Goa, and her effort to preserve the house, her memories and identity. Through Aida and her house, Catarina Mourão offers us a portrayal of Goa and its cultural diversity.
