The Armenians from Jerusalem

Event Slider

Archives related to the construction of the Gulbenkian Library in Jerusalem were discovered at a private residence in Paris in 2023, a discovery that inspired the exhibition “Armenians and Jerusalem”, which explores the relationship between Armenians and the Holy City, and highlights Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian’s own connections with Jerusalem.

An inherent part of the Holy City, the Armenian Quarter is one of the four main quarters of the Old City of Jerusalem: Muslim, Jewish, Christian, and Armenian.

The first part of the exhibition is dedicated to the special relationship that Armenians have with Jerusalem for over a millennium, offering insight into this unique community; the second part is dedicated to Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian and his connection to Jerusalem as the bearer of the responsibility of his family’s legacy and philanthropy.

Duration: 60 min. Participants: 10 – 25 Language: Portuguese / English
