Location
Room 1 Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation
On the 50th anniversary of the death of the American art historian Robert C. Smith (1912–1975), this event takes inspiration from his pioneering research and his role in bringing the Luso-Brazilian Baroque to wider recognition between the 1940s and 1970s.
Smith’s relationship with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation was marked by several grants that supported his research and publications, and deepened in 1975 with the bequest of his documentary archive. Today, this collection is preserved, studied and shared by the Gulbenkian Art Library, which safeguards and promotes its legacy.
Organised by the Institute of Art History of NOVA FCSH, in partnership with the Gulbenkian Art Library and the Gaudium Magnum Foundation, the conference is especially intended for researchers, academics and students interested in the life and work of Robert C. Smith.
This event will be presented in Portuguese and English without simultaneous translation. Will be livestreamed on this page.
