Location
Open-Air Amphitheatre Gulbenkian GardenFounded in 1991, Raiz Di Polon is one of the most prominent Cape Verdean contemporary dance groups.
Inspired by the eponymous book by José Luiz Tavares and Duarte Belo, this concert consists of the soundtrack of the play Coração de Lava [Heart of Lava], which showcases and gives voice to various snapshots of the people from the Chã das Caldeiras area, Fogo Island, Cape Verde, in the days leading up to the recent eruption and the ensuing tragedies. These are moments of distress, perseverance and mutual support, with the imminent threat of catastrophe ever-present, taking us on a journey through various genres of Cape Verdean music, such as Morna, Coladeira, Batuko, Kolá san jon, Funaná, Choro, and Ladainhas. Several excerpts from poems that compose the book Coração de Lava will serve as the guiding thread and set the rhythm for the concert.
