György Kurtág
The Diotima Quartet is one of the most acclaimed string quartets of today, its name deriving both from the female character created by Hölderlin in the novel Hyperion and from a landmark string quartet piece by Luigi Nono. Its reputation for excellence has been built through close collaboration with Pierre Boulez and Helmut Lachenmann, as well as performances of works by Beethoven, Schubert, Ravel and Bartók. The Diotima joins the Kurtág / Jolas Cycle at Gulbenkian in a programme bringing together works by the two celebrated composers alongside pieces by Ravel and Bartók.
