Past on Stage

History and Image Workshop

Questioning the ways in which archival images are central to the organisation of the dance not dance programme, this workshop-tour seeks to discuss the uses of images in the construction of a historically informed look at the past in general, and the cultural history of the body and dance in particular.

The History and Image Workshop at the IHC Institute of Contemporary History has sought to be a place for reflection and debate between creators, researchers and archivists from different areas of knowledge who are interested in the role of the image (photography, cinema, visual arts) in mediating the past.

Every two months, the History and Image Workshop schedules a session entitled Past on Stage, dedicated especially to the analysis and interpretation of the uses of the past in contemporary visual, cultural, historical and artistic productions (theatre, cinema, music).

By organising meetings of different formats, OHI aims to stimulate a transdisciplinary reflection on the analytical methodologies, theoretical challenges and political responsibilities inherent in the use of images for the construction of historical knowledge.
