“Folha” is the theme of the new installation in the Islamic East gallery.

The installation had as its starting point a poem by Ibn Ammar, an 11th-century Arabic poet from Silves:

It was the garden that came to visit us
Sending its gifts
In the perfumed hands of the breeze.

Inspired by these lines, curators Jessica Hallett and Shahd Wadi challenged a group of participants to look at the Islamic art collection from a new perspective and critically reflect on the topic at a time when climate change affects the foliage cycle and the capacity of tree survival.

On this visit guided by the curators, Cartão Gulbenkian Mais holders will learn more about this research that was the result of the sixth edition of the ‘Power of the Word’ project.
