Room 1 Calouste Gulbenkian FoundationWhat are participatory artistic actions anyway? And why take part in them?
Against a backdrop of the fragility of today’s democracies and a general feeling of hopelessness and confusion, it is important to boost cultural participation as a fundamental right that consolidates citizenship. At the same time, it is vital to clarify what contributions the arts, particularly participatory art, can make to strengthening democratic life, activating the aesthetic sense and critical thinking of citizens.
Based on the experience of the participants, this workshop, led by Hugo Cruz, focuses on identifying the main questions to be asked during creative processes, thus enabling deeper reflection on participatory and community artistic practices, and on the main “myths” associated with them.
Registration for this workshop opens on the 1st of October.
