Aware that learning about music and its repertoire is endless, Mitsuko Uchida, generally considered to be one of the most brilliant pianists of our time, says that age has not brought her anything especially new, as she is still someone who studies and strives to improve every day. What has also not changed, she would say in an interview, is that she feels blessed on any day when she is “allowed to play Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and the music of our time”, especially that of her “beloved friend György Kurtág”. “If heaven existed”, she adds, “this would be heaven”. And this earthly paradise, with pieces by Kurtág and Mozart, is what will accompany the pianist on this new visit to Gulbenkian Music.
