On this lunchtime tour, we will speak to the gardener responsible for the challenge of keeping the Gulbenkian Garden as a paradise for everyone.

In the 1960s, the Gulbenkian Garden was a pioneer for its completely innovative way of creating gardens in Portugal.

In the city centre, creating a garden partially on a slab, which works with the rules of landscape and life, implies specific maintenance strategies, of which we would highlight: working in synergy with nature itself, integrating the spontaneous emergence of some vegetation, and the natural cycles of growth and death of plants; incorporating strategies for capturing and recirculating rainwater for irrigation, while installing biodiverse meadows, more resistant to drought and disease; accepting the natural forms of vegetation, without pruning it for purely aesthetic purposes, thus respecting the natural way vegetation distributes itself in the landscape, according to geographical and microclimate conditions.

The visit takes place in the garden, regardless of weather conditions. Participants should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. The activity will only be canceled in the event of extreme weather conditions.
