Location
Engawa Space Centro de Arte Moderna GulbenkianEly Janoville (Paraíba, Brazil, 1993) joins Francisco Trêpa (Lisbon, 1995) to present ‘Last Dance’, the musical finale of the ‘Gall Ball’ exhibition.
During the exhibition period, the two artists transformed sculptures into a musical instrument: bronze oak galls became keys activated by the energy of their own bodies. Rising to Trêpa’s challenge, Janoville composed a piece inspired by the narratives of the works on display and the movements they suggest – some frenetic, others calm – with wasps and bees playing a leading role.
After all, music and our bodies are the only elements we need for a dance.
This performance follows the visit to the exhibition by the artist and one of the curators/students of the Masters of Culture Studies at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Csenge Bognár.

Francisco Trêpa
Francisco Trêpa (1995, Lisbon) is a Portuguese artist, that studied ceramics. He holds a degree in Sculpture and a Master’s in Multimedia Art. Since 2015, he has exhibited nationally and internationally in various galleries and institutions. In 2024, he was named a finalist for the EDP Foundation’s New Artists Award and, that same year, he won the Grand Prize of the Sovereign Portuguese Art Prize.
His most recent body of work creates a meta-universe inspired by the plant world, the ties and crosses between plants and animals. Over the past two years, the ‘main actors’ of this meta-universe have been fictional, genderless characters who tell us their stories and attempt to escape the categories of our world. -
