Open-Air Amphitheatre Gulbenkian GardenJapa System is the stage name of Bahian musician and composer Antônio Dimas Vieira Aires Júnior, who began his musical career aged 12. In 2001, he joined the Brazilian group Bahia Brasil, with which he toured Japan. He revisited the country twice to acquire musical knowledge, which earned him the nickname ‘Japa’. He was also a member of the band Baiana System and has taken part in several international festivals.
Looking to broaden his musical possibilities, Japa System developed the ‘Nave System’ concept. It consists of combining electronic and organic instruments, which allows different rhythms to be performed simultaneously without the need of a large number of instruments. In 2021, he released his first solo album.
