Pavilhão de Portugal – One Sustainable Ocean, Auditório do Fórum OceanoGulbenkian Blue Carbon is a groundbreaking project in Portugal aimed at mapping and characterising the blue carbon ecosystems in our country and at promoting investment in the conservation and restoration of these ecosystems.
This session marks the launch of the project and its public presentation at the UN Ocean Conference.
Carlos Duarte, researcher and executive director of the Global Coral Reef R&D Platform and professor at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, will be the session’s keynote speaker, followed by a panel discussion that brings together experts on blue carbon and the blue economy from the public, private and third sectors. The panel will discuss the yet to be explored potential of blue carbon investment in Portugal and the real opportunities that protecting and restoring Portuguese marine and coastal ecosystems bring, particularly in climate change mitigation.
The session will be opened by José Maria Costa, Secretary of State for Maritime Affairs.
This event is promoted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in partnership with ANP WWF and CCMAR.
