Total approximate duration: 240 min / Intermission of 33 min

In response to a commission from the Metropolitan Opera, Tony Award winner Jeanine Tesori premieres an opera that “deals with real problems in our world today”. After the acclaimed opera Blue, in Grounded, Tesori has worked from George Brant’s play of the same name to compose an intense score, focused on the ethical conflicts created by the use of military technology and the emotional after-effects to which those who operate it are subjected. The lead role is taken by Emily D’Angelo, a mezzo-soprano who was the first singer to receive the Leonard Bernstein Prize.
