Narratives of the Self, between the public and the private

Books by women artists in the Art Library Collection

Event Slider

Taking the Art Library's Artist Book and independent edition collection as a starting point, the exhibition reflects the research carried out as part of the IHA/NOVA SEED-Project | Narratives of the Self in Women Artists' Books.

Connecting Contemporary Art History and Gender Studies reflects on how feminist artistic practices in the field of artist’s books and editions contribute to the emancipation of “female subjectivities”, with particular emphasis on heterodox self-portraitist and autobiographical discourses.

The exhibition is jointly curated by the IHA/NOVA research centre, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation / Art Library and Archives and the Caldas School of Arts and Design / Design and Arts Research Laboratory.
