This workshop invites you to explore the different forms and levels of citizen engagement in cultural institutions, including participation, co-creation and decision-making. The workshop is for people who are interested in exploring the topic of Citizen Leadership.
The workshop is led by Saad Eddine Said, co-director and co-founder of the UK organisation Citizens in Power.
Citizens In Power is a not-for-profit organisation with a purpose to co-design ways for citizens to lead decision-making and shape the future.
It was founded by Saad Eddine Said and David Jubb in 2023 in the UK. Citizens In Power is currently partnering with St Pauls Carnival, Trinity Arts and the West of England Combined Authority to create a citizens’ assembly for culture for an area of 1.2million people, supported by the Gulbenkian Foundation and Arts Council England. It is also working in West Cumbria to create a citizens’ assembly to shape the strategic vision and programme for We Are Here, a Creative People and Places organisation funded by Arts Council England.
Citizens In Power is curating a network for organisations and authorities who want to work together to lead a transition to citizen-led decision-making in and around the cultural sector. Saad is also the Artistic Director and CEO of New Art Exchange in Nottingham (from 2022) and David is the former Artistic Director and CEO of Battersea Arts Centre (2004-2019).
