Giancarlo Guerrero, Main Guest Conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra, said in an interview that “Beethoven was a composer who, more than any other, transformed the sound of music and redefined what a composer does”. Identifying in Beethoven a fundamental bridge between the classical and romantic periods, the conductor believes that “his nine symphonies shook the musical canon to the core with their brilliance and ingenuity.
