After being inspired by the letters exchanged between D. Pedro I and the Marquesa de Santos to compose Domitila, the Brazilian composer João Guilherme again uses epistolary relationships to create a short opera, this time inspired by the romantic correspondence of Sóror Mariana Alcoforado. Conducted by Hannu Lintu – who will also conduct his tribute to Beethoven with Symphony No. 2 – soprano Carla Caramujo sings at the national première of Cartas Portuguesas, a work commissioned as part of the partnership established between Gulbenkian Música and the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra.
