Assa Matusse

Event Slider

In her debut at the Summer Garden, Assa Matusse brings the changana and the traditional rhythms of Mozambique to the stage of the Grand Auditorium.

Affectionately nicknamed ‘Menina do bairro’ in her native Mozambique, Assa Matusse is a singer-songwriter with an unmistakable voice. Influenced by her family, traditional Mozambican rhythms stand out in her music, particularly marrabenta, xigubo, mutimba and tufo.

Recognised for her ability to combine the traditional sounds of her country with modern sounds that she has absorbed from various parts of the world (pop, jazz, electronic), Assa Matusse sings in Portuguese, English and French, but it is in Changana, her mother tongue, that she best expresses herself musically.
