Warps, wefts and weaves

Visual expression workshop

Event Slider

Based on multiple languages of art, this workshop seeks to make thoughts and ideas visible through experimentation with different materials and materialities. A space in which to ask questions, imagine and discover.

Where do yarns take us? What aligns all that we see, what we wear, the fabrics and weaves that we need for daily movement?

Veins, nests, twigs, straw, the skeleton of leaves, structures that bear weight, the elegance of a knot – what is required to build woven materials? Can there be a cross thread without a yarn? What are the invisible threads that forge relationships between living beings? What triggers the systems of gestures that are repeated in what we see and what we build? What are the rhythms of each cross thread?

This encounter invites participants to weave their own textures. First, we will draw inspiration from the woven materials of nature and everyday life, sharpening the gaze with dialogue, reflection and exchange. Next, based on contexts of research with different materials, materialities of nature and a few tools, we let our hands do the talking, moving and searching for those textures. Hands as a creative studio.
