“Alone, with love” and other daily gestures of the intellectual Amílcar Cabral.

Based on the letters written by Amílcar Cabral to his wife, Maria Helena, this stage reading seeks to encounter the echoes that Amílcar Cabral instilled in the direct and indirect memories of our histories through the sound of each voice and each body.

Amílcar Cabral was the founder of the PAIGC – the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau (1959), a colonised warrior that freed the coloniser and was assassinated by his fellow fighters in 1973. These are the echoes of his heroism: “for the whites (…) it is not appropriate that these [blacks] become their competitors, that the children of the blacks, evolved, educated, provide competition to their children in the struggle for life”. And of his eternal love: “I want to sing your eyes, your speech/Your gestures, your breathing of a Woman /In a verse I only want to consume/All of the immense expression, of your being.
