A voyage through sounds

Armenian modal song workshop

The concept of “mode” proves transversal to music in every culture. The different forms of organising the sounds that serve as their raw materials reflect their distinctive sonorous ambiences that, complemented by a strong rhythmic component, prove capable of inducing different states of awareness. This workshop seeks to introduce participants to modal song as practiced within the Armenian tradition, through both vocal preparation and the learning of Armenian liturgical song. Participants may or may not come from musical backgrounds. The results of this learning process are subject to presentation in the concert with the Akn Ensemble at 7pm in the Nave of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum/Modern Collection.
