The Cuidar de Quem Cuida (Caring for Those Who Care) project is an initiative designed to meet the needs of municipalities in supporting people with dementia or in post-stroke care in the region of Entre Douro and Vouga. Humanised social and healthcare solutions were designed taking into account the needs of informal caregivers, focusing on their quality of life and that of the person they are caring for.

Since April 2019, Cuidar de Quem Cuida has received financing from a Social Impact Bond for the support, training and empowerment of 240 caregivers in the North of Portugal.

The partners of this project are the Gulbenkian Foundation and Grupo José de Mello Saúde, as impact investors, Portugal Inovação Social, that manages the financing instrument,  Administração Central do Sistema de Saúde, the public authority that approved the intervention, and MAZE, specialist in impact investment and responsible for the financial structuring of the project and for monitoring and reporting to the partners over the course of the project’s three-year implementation.
