Sérgio Mah (b. 1970, Mozambique) holds a degree in Sociology, a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences, and a PhD in Multimedia Art. He teaches at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.

His research and critical writing have focused on contemporary art, with particular emphasis on the practices and theories of the image. He was co-author of the documentary series Entre Imagens, produced for RTP2.

As a curator, since 2003 he has been responsible for numerous solo and group exhibitions at national and international institutions. He served as Artistic Director of LisboaPhoto (2003–2005) and PHotoEspaña (2008–2010). He was the curator of the Portuguese Official Representation at the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (2011) and, together with Nuno Brandão Costa, of the Portuguese Official Representation at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (2018).

Between 2023 and 2026, he served as Deputy Director of MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology.
