António M. Feijó

President of the Board of Trustees of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation since May 2022.
Professor Emeritus at the University of Lisbon, António M. Feijó graduated with a degree in Anglo-American Studies in 1977, completed his master’s degree in English Literature in 1979 at the State University of New York at Albany and, in 1985, obtained his Ph.D. from Brown University.
He was Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities between 2008 and 2013, and became the school’s director between 2008 and 2013. He was Vice-Rector of the University of Lisbon, and, between 2019 and 2022, he became Pro-Rector, director of the University Press and the University Review.
He was Chairman of the Independent General Council of RTP (Portuguese Public Broadcasting Company) between 2014 and 2018, Non-Executive Director of the Casa de Mateus Foundation (2017-2022), and Non-Executive member of the Board of Trustees of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2018-2022).
He is the author of several books and essays on English, American and Portuguese literature, as well as translations and stage dramaturgies (Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Hamlet and King Lear; works by Oscar Wilde and Fernando Pessoa, among others). His most recent publications include, in 2015, Uma Admiração Pastoril pelo Diabo (Pessoa & Pascoaes), Imprensa-Nacional Casa da Moeda; a slightly altered version of his translation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, in 2016; A Universidade como deve ser, with Miguel Tamen (Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation, 2017); and, in 2020, O Cânone, of which he was one of the editors and authors.
He has curated exhibitions on literature (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, 2008) and at the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation (2018, in collaboration).
