Joana Matos Frias is the new director of Colóquio / Letras
Joana Matos Frias, who replaces Nuno Júdice, director of the journal between 2009 and 2024, takes over as director of Colóquio / Letras on 1 June.
A full professor of Portuguese literature at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, Joana Matos Frias also holds the position of Director of the Department of Romance Literatures at the same Faculty.
Joana Matos Frias has a PhD from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto, with a thesis on Rhetoric of the Image and Imagist Poetics in the Poetry of Ruy Cinatti. Her work was published in 2018 under the title O Murmúrio das Imagens (The Murmur of Images) and was awarded the Grand Prize for Essays by the Portuguese Writers’ Association the following year.
A member of the Estranhar Pessoa Project and the Centre for Comparative Studies, her critical activity has been spread across a large number of creators. Joana Matos Frias is also the author of several books of essays dedicated mainly to writers from Portuguese and Brazilian literature.
