Gulbenkian Música renews contracts with its Principal Conductors until 2030
The Director of Gulbenkian Música, Fredrik Andersson, said the Foundation is “delighted” to extend both conductors’ contracts, stating that they “will continue the excellent work they have been carrying out over the past years.”
The Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu made his debut as Chief Conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra in November 2023, while the Slovenian conductor Martina Batič took up her position as Principal Conductor of the Gulbenkian Choir in October 2024.
Referring to Hannu Lintu, the Director of Gulbenkian Música described his work with the Gulbenkian Orchestra as “of utmost importance for the artistic success of the seasons,” adding that “we are extremely pleased to be able to continue our journey towards new artistic heights together with our Chief Conductor and Artistic Partner. We look forward to the coming years of recordings, tours, and many inspiring and exciting programs.”
Regarding Martina Batič, Fredrik Andersson stated that this renewal ensures that “we can continue the positive artistic development work she has begun. In addition to conducting our major Easter and Christmas concerts each year, she will also conduct three a cappella concerts per season. She will also continue to lead the choir on international tours, most recently in July at the Granada Festival.”
Commenting on the renewal, Hannu Lintu says: “I’m extremely happy to continue as Chief Conductor of the Orquestra Gulbenkian. The sound of this orchestra is flourishing, and I enjoy my collaboration with the wonderful Gulbenkian Choir and the management of the Foundation and its Music Department. The city of Lisbon is today one of the most interesting cities in Europe, and the enthusiasm of our audience continues to fascinate me week after week. I’m looking forward to all our future projects together.”
Martina Batič states: “Working with Coro Gulbenkian and being part of Portuguese musical heritage and culture has been one of the most meaningful artistic journeys of my life. I am deeply grateful for the trust, openness, and extraordinary musical commitment of these wonderful artists. I am truly happy to continue our work together and very much look forward to the next chapter of shared music-making, discovery, and inspiration.”
