Art and Education
A manual that is not a manual. Thus might we describe this book that brings together witness accounts, itineraries, essays and reflections about the 10×10 project, a Gulbenkian initiative that, over the last five academic years, brought together artists and teachers of different secondary school subjects to collaborate towards the development of effective learning strategies for increasing the attention, the motivation and the involvement of students in the classroom. This is not a manual but serve as a working tool and is above all a source of inspiration for all professionals interconnected with Arts and Education.
The origins of this work stem from the “micro-pedagogies” – the concrete actions that were tested with duos or triples of artists-teacher(s) (one artist for one or two teachers and a class) within the classroom context – published here in an exclusively dedicated chapter. Ice-breakers, rituals for beginning and ending classes, games, collective activities, concentration exercises, memorising, active listening, relaxation exercises, appropriation, negotiation and argumentation are just some of the approaches explored in these pages.
The book 10×10 – Spaces between Art and Education is designed for professionals, students and researchers in these fields.
This is a limited edition and not on public sale but is available free of charge in a digital version available as a download as 10×10 – Spaces between Art and Education.
