The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a private institution whose fundamental purpose is to improve people’s quality of life through art, charity, science, and education. The Foundation operates from its headquarters in Lisbon and delegations in Paris and London.

Gulbenkian Música promotes an annual music season with more than 120 concerts featuring the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Choir as well as great names of world music.

We are looking for a Music Archivist to join the Gulbenkian Música team, who will be responsible for managing the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Choir Archives, in order to support the service’s programme.

Contractual conditions: Employment contract without a fixed term.

Main responsibilities

Management of the music archive of the Gulbenkian Choir and Orchestra.

Management of requests for the purchase and rental of scores in accordance with the Gulbenkian Música programme.

Contact with orchestra’s conductors, soloists and instrumentalists regarding their musical preferences (editions, arranging directions, etc.) with a guarantee of timely execution.

Editing scores in Sibelius.

Knowledge for patch creation and real-time electronics manipulation in MAX/MSP.

Inserting the information relating to Gulbenkian Orchestra projects, as well as budgets for musical materials into the OPAS software.

Continuation of the creation and maintenance of the Digital Score Archive.

Musical assistance with planning and implementation of recording and broadcasting projects.

Attendance control in rehearsals and concerts.

Ensure the logistical needs for the smooth running of rehearsals and concerts.

Ensure stage and instrument needs for each project.

Musical production and monitoring of auditions for the Gulbenkian Orchestra.

Update and check the work schedules of the Gulbenkian Orchestra.

Communicating relevant information to the members of the Gulbenkian Orchestra.

Required skills

  • 4 years of experience in a music library;
  • 4 years of production experience related to choral and orchestral activity;
  • Degree in Musicology/Musical Sciences or Degree in Music in the area of Composition;
  • Mastering the Sibelius application;
  • Knowledge of the MAX/MSP application;
  • Mastery of the OPAS application;
  • Written and spoken proficiency in Portuguese and English;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to deal with stressful work situations;
  • Availability for night and weekend work;
  • Availability for national and international tours.
