The Modern Art Centre (CAM) is a centre for art and culture that houses the largest collection of Portuguese modern and contemporary art to date. With a renovated building and a new garden extension, CAM’s mission is to harness the transformative power of art to promote both social and individual change.

We are looking for an Assistant Registrar to join the Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian team, who will be responsible for the standardisation, management, and migration of information within the CAM collections database, supporting the development of the Online Collections project and the integration of institutional information into digital platforms.

Contract Terms: Fixed-Term Employment Contract (2 years)

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, clean, and standardise data within the InArte database, ensuring consistency and quality of collections information.
  • Collaborate in the migration of content and metadata from the former CAM website to the new institutional WordPress platform.
  • Work closely with Curatorial, Collection Management, Digital, and IT teams in the validation, structuring, and publication of online collections content.
  • Ensure the application of controlled vocabularies and museum documentation standards, including international terminologies such as Getty AAT.
  • Support interoperability processes and data integration between the InArte database and institutional digital platforms.
  • Contribute to the production of technical documentation and procedures associated with the management and digital publication of collections.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Cultural Heritage and Digital Humanities, Museology, Art History, Information Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in roles related to collections documentation, databases, or digital projects within museum or heritage contexts.
  • Practical experience with collection management systems, preferably InArte, or equivalent platforms.
  • Proficiency in WordPress or other Content Management Systems (CMS).
  • Familiarity with data migration processes, metadata standardisation, and the online publication of collections.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital data management tools.
