Visiting Professorships in the Humanities

These professorships are aimed at Portuguese higher education institutions seeking to host visiting professors from international universities with a distinguished academic record and recognised expertise in the field of the Humanities.

Lisbon time

The Gulbenkian Visiting Professorships in the Humanities aim to strengthen the quality and internationalisation of teaching and research in Portugal by hosting distinguished foreign scholars. These grants target senior researchers with a well-established scientific track record, encouraging their temporary integration into Portuguese higher education institutions.


Conditions

The scholarship includes the following support:

  • Monthly stipend: €4,000
  • One-time allowance for travel and relocation: €4,000

Visits must last between 3 and 9 months and should begin within 12 months of the selection confirmation.


Eligibility

Only Portuguese Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are eligible, and the proposed academic activities must take place in Portugal.

Applications must be submitted by the professor responsible for coordinating the visit, on behalf of the Portuguese HEI. The visiting professor is not eligible to apply directly.
