Grants for clinical research projects that contribute to improving healthcare delivery in the PALOP countries.

This grant call aims to support the implementation of clinical research projects that contribute to improving the quality, effectiveness, and equity of healthcare delivery.

The development of these projects should contribute to:

  • strengthening knowledge on diagnosis or the development of new therapies for diseases affecting the population;
  • generating scientific evidence to improve clinical care and protocols;
  • building the capacities of research institutions and healthcare institutions at a clinical level;
  • fostering national and international partnerships between research institutions—particularly those in the PALOP countries—and encouraging the participation of researchers in international networks.

Application Phases

The grant call is divided into two phases. All proposals must be submitted in English.

In the first phase, a short-term grant of up to two months will be awarded to researchers whose initial project proposals are selected. In the second phase, funding will be granted for full project implementation.

Projects selected for the second phase must have a maximum duration of three years and must begin within three months of the announcement of results.

Eligibility

Researchers based at research centres or academic departments of higher education institutions conducting research in Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, or São Tomé and Príncipe are eligible to apply.

Applicants must be nationals of one of these countries and must either hold a PhD in health sciences obtained more than five years ago, or—if the PhD was awarded exactly five years ago—have more than ten years of proven research experience.

  • Prior to submitting your application form, check that you have met all the eligibility criteria. We would recommend close reading of the Call Conditions (available in the Documents section);
  • The application may only be submitted after having completed all of the compulsory boxes in the form and the uploading of the documentation required in the Call Conditions;
  • At the end, click on the button “submit application”. In order to avoid difficulties in submitting your application, avoid submissions in the closing days of the tender.
