Fellows are encouraged to pursue projects of their own choosing in a setting designed to encourage reflection, concentration, and exchange. Bringing together scholars from a wide range of disciplines, backgrounds, and nationalities, the program seeks to create a vibrant intellectual community while supporting individual research of outstanding quality and originality.

Applications will be assessed through a competitive international process. The quality and originality of the proposed work, in keeping with the Institute’s spirit and intellectual environment, will be central considerations in the evaluation of candidates. The final cohort will be selected by the GIAS Advisory Board.

Eligibility

The GIAS will host international academics, but will also consider applications from emeriti, independent scholars, and artists. Applications in most non-laboratorial and non-experimental fields will be considered, provided that the proposed work is not primarily practice- or application-oriented.

How to Apply

Applicants to the fellowships should submit their applications individually, and include a curriculum vitae, a brief description of what they propose to do while at the GIAS, and the names of two referees.

Fellowship offers will be made from late January of the following year.
