In this session, drawing on the new book written and illustrated by Catarina Sobral for the CAM Heroines of the Arts (CAM Heroínas das Artes) children’s collection, we come to know the artist Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, tracing the many twists and turns of her extraordinary life.  

As a child, Helena did not attend school, studying at home instead under the tutelage of music and drawing teachers. She spent many years in her maternal grandfather’s house, with its large library, where she befriended books. And that was only the beginning…

“Much to tell!” is a storytelling series for families that, each session, presents a new story told by different artists. Inspired by the power of Scheherazade, the series is based on tales that reflect strong female characters capable of transforming the course of events, always opening up new possibilities.
