They Live (1988)

John Carpenter

Event Slider

Inspired by John Carpenter's dissatisfaction with Ronald Reagan's government, They Live is a critique of the political and economic corruption of society, and of the people who blindly accept their fate. The session will be introduced by curator Pedro Mexia.

John Nada, an unemployed man looking for work, finds special sunglasses that allow him to recognize people’s true identities. The glasses reveal to him the aliens who have invaded the world and are occupying countless positions of power in society.

Masquerading as humans, they keep the citizens hypnotized and manipulated through the mass media. From that moment on, John Nada will have to open the eyes of the other humans so that, together, they can fight the invasion.
