This tour explores areas of the building that illustrate its innovative structural and spatial solutions, uncovering the secrets of this architectural icon.
Modernist architects shared a conviction that architecture had a social mission – and the power to generate happiness. “An architecture with a certain life,” in the words of Ruy d’Athouguia, was the guiding idea behind the team who designed this building.
Opened in 1969, the ensemble of Headquarters, Museum and Garden of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is one of the key landmarks of modern architecture in Portugal. With outstanding construction quality, avant-garde building techniques and seamless collaboration between architecture and landscape design, it stands as a unique and inspiring building – a symbol of a possible utopia.
