Location

Gulbenkian Garden Meeting point: Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation entrance (exterior)
In this practical workshop we will understand the role of vegetation in this garden.

We will learn about some of the plants that are multiplied; which techniques and times are most appropriate; what influence light, shade, temperature, soil, and even the phases of the moon have on the success of plant development, and, finally, try out the various techniques over the course of several sessions.

Maintenance of the Gulbenkian Garden is one of the most important activities for the concept and project of landscape architects Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles and António Viana Barreto to remain and endure over time.

The maintenance team of this garden participates daily in the evolutionary dynamics and balance between the various elements, namely water, soil and vegetation.

One of their tasks is to multiply plants in the nursery. Propagating plants taken from the garden itself helps preserve its biodiversity and genetic heritage, ensuring that all plants adapt immediately to their environment.

The workshop will take place in the garden, regardless of weather conditions. Participants are requested to bring appropriate clothing and footwear.
