Studio Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian‘Old Love’ is based on the sound piece ‘Ensaios sobre Amor Antigo’ [Essays on Old Love], which is part of ‘City around the City,’ an ode to places on the Sintra Rail Corridor, where he lives and works.
The artist invites us to a journey through the incessant everyday rhythms of the inhabitants of the Sintra Rail Corridor, marked by the train. Like a red snake, it carves paths and unites places and people, drawing real and imaginary lines of proximity and distance, of belonging and separation.
For Tristany, the Sintra Rail Corridor is an existential and emotional geography in constant metamorphosis: ‘I need to live my geography to exist.’ Committed to the history that manifests itself in the here and now, the artist uses his work to celebrate the right to a collective and shared imagination.
‘To love you I did
To love you I wanted to
Build a bridge to take me to you
I know there are barriers
but I know you’ll destroy them
Change starts when we get here’
