Over the years, Maria João Pires’ performances at the Grand Auditorium, both in recitals and with orchestra, have proved to be major events in the Portuguese musical calendar. In 2019, responding to her interpretation of Schubert, Público newspaper praised her “restrained tone”, as though sharing with the audience the idea that “in Schubert nothing more is needed, everything is there”. In this special programme, in collaboration with the Youth Choir of the University of Lisbon, the pianist frames Schubert’s “voice” with a very personal light, adding two Beethoven piano sonatas and pieces by Mendelssohn and Pärt.
