Ma_Jara, the name given to this encounter between European and Eastern music, derives from the Arabic word majarah (galaxy). Following an earlier project entitled Jadayel, in which Quatuor Béla joined Palestinian musicians Ahmad Al Khatib (oud) and Youssef Hbeisch (percussion), the experience is now expanded with the addition of two further Middle Eastern instruments – the nay and the qanun. As before, Ma_Jara is a space for discovery between cultures, strengthening artistic and human connections and opening a path towards harmony among peoples.
