Is art easy? Do it yourself!

‘Painting is Easy. Do It Yourself!’ is an exhibition of works from the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation Contemporary Art Collection, conceived by João Maria Gusmão and taking as its point of departure a 1989 photograph by Antoni Muntadas showing an advertisement for a hardware store with the slogan ‘Pintar es fácil! Hágalo usted mismo’. 

Setting out from a questioning of the idea that ‘every human being is an artist’, the exhibition reflects ironically on the concept of art, on the means of production and on the ideas of factory, product and consumer, drawing the visitor into the reading of the works of art through a kind of ‘Do It Yourself’ recipe book.
