The Gulbenkian Garden, like every garden, is an immense world of plants, animals, fungi and other living beings that compete and collaborate throughout the year. More than 300 plant species have been identified here, along with over 40 bird species and countless insects, from butterflies and dragonflies to cicadas and bees. Fungi, lichens, reptiles and amphibians also make their home here.
After find the 50 different species in the Garden, we count what we have found and place them on the Garden’s naturalist scale. Observations can also be recorded through photos, drawings, sound recordings – or even by collecting fallen acorns.
Teachers should divide the class into teams. Each team will have a leaflet and complete the challenge within a set time. Teachers should also agree with the teams how findings will be recorded. At the end, scores are compared and a winning team is chosen.
The leaflet is available for purchase at the Head Office shop, open daily from 10:00 to 18:00 (on concert days, it opens one hour earlier). Closed on Sundays when no activities are scheduled in the building.
